Selling on Facebook Part 1

I have sold on FB for several years now and thought I would share some pointers on how to do this safely and successfully.

I am going to assume that you all know the basics of FB selling, if not I am sure there are some great how to get started tutorial on the utuber.

I am a member of several Auction/Bidding sites and also an Admin on a few.

In this post I will be talking about selling on a FB Auction/Bidding site, I will cover selling in a group in a later post.

First off read the rules of the group...and read them again...and then for good measure read them again. Know what is expect of you as a seller and buyer, all group have different rules in place that are set by the Admins.

I belong to several 24 hour Auction/Bidding sites, they all have variations of the same rules. If I have not used a site recently, I always take the time to review that groups rules. Does that sound like a bit of ocd? Maybe, but I sell not for a living but for extra income and if I am removed from a site for not adhering to the rules I loose thousands of potential buyers. Not smart...so read the rules people!!

Picture...Take a clear picture of the item. Make sure there is not a bunch of stuff in the background. I can assure you no one wants to see your dirty soup bowl sitting beside a shirt you are trying to sell. No one wants to buy your black sweater full of white dog or cat hair either...just saying. If more than 1 picture is needed, again check the rules, they may have to be placed in the comments of the post.

Description...Short accurate truthful description is all that is needed. EUC (excellent used condition) NIB (new in box) VGUC (very good used condition) Be sure to state if the item is to be picked up or if you will be delivering the item, or if there is a time and place that you will be meeting.

SB...Starting Bid. Exactly that, what is the least you will take for the item. I know people who start all their items at 1.00 or 5.00, these are people who buy storage units and want to attract lots of attention to their Auctions with a low SB. Trust me that works well for them when they are doing volume sales.

Bump...what the heck does bump mean. Well commenting on your Auction the word bump or a (.) or a super cute but annoying emoji bring your Auction to the top of the page. All sites have their own bumping rules, the ones I am a part of vary from 1 hour, 4 hours and 4 times in a 24 hour period. Also many allow one more bump in the last hour of bidding.

You got a bid!! On a 24 hour site, the Auction ends 24 hours after the first bid is placed. Calling end times...an Admin can call an end time in many ways eg. Auction ends Monday @ 10;29;59 pm. Ending Monday at 10;29 pm. Bidding ends Monday @ 10:29:59 pm. Or any variation of it. Times can only be determined from a desk top computer...that is right folks a DESK TOP COMPUTER, iphones, i anything, tablets and laptops will all have wonky times. I have witnessed way too many nasty exchanges with people fighting over end times....desk top computer clock determines an accurate time.

Your Auction is Over!! Calling an Auction....is a term that we Admins use for declaring the winner of an Auction. Again the rules will state who will call an auction winner, a Admin or the seller. Again I have seen many nasty exchanges over this...people arguing over how many seconds in a minute, now I admit that was funny lol. If you think an Admin had declared the wrong winner, be nice about it, use a :) emoji is a good idea too. Everyone makes mistakes, so be nice, I will say though that 99% of the time an Admin is correct, but finger slips do happen....ask how I know lol.

Communication...Your Auction is over and an Admin had declared the winner. Now what? The seller and winner should both try to contact each other my PM (private message, messenger) to clarify set up, pick up, drop off or meet up arrangements.

Follow through...You and the buyer have made arrangements to meet. All goes well and the item and money have changed hands. Be sure to read the rules about when to delete the Auction. Many do not want an Auction deleted until it is paid for and picked up.

I will be back with part 2 soon....

If you have any questions please be sure and comment.
