Bucket List

Thrifting Bucket list

I am not the only one, right? The person who has a revolving list in their head of what is on their thrifting bucket list.

Is yours a piece of China that was your Moms that was broken in a move, maybe a Vintage Christmas ornament that you remember on your Grandma's tree. Well this was near the top of my list.

Starburst Clock

This sale last nite was AMAZING. So much cool, vintage and interesting stuff. The garage and driveway were full as well as the house. I did restrain myself and only picked up a few things.

I have looked for a Starburst clock for years, I have seen them all over the interweb and always wanted to get my hands on one.

The cord has been altered, so we will replace it. This is pretty dirty as was everything. It was on the garage floor, I did a double take when I saw it. This will be part of the "catch and release program" I am on, lol.

Found this other clock in the kitchen, also super dirty, but still adorable.

These people had a thing about messing with cords. This is also a member of the catch and release program.

My Husband spotted this hanging on the garage wall, once cleaned up (there are spider nests on the back.....pretty sure no one wanted a picture of that) and the bend hopefully taken out, also a member of the program. This was not for sale till we asked about it, never hurts to ask. These sell very very well in the area, so hoping for a good return.

This is not a part of the program, even though my Husband wishes it would be.

Isn't he adorable? Ceramic Santa is about 11 inches tall and almost as wide. I bought him because, well, I like him :) and also what was hiding in his toy bag.

More Vintage Christmas bits. I have a large china cabinet that holds my milk glass collection, I stuff the vases full of this type of Vintage Christmas. It looks so pretty against all the white.

What did I pay for all this.....wait for it....wait...hang on.......

$4.00....4 loonies...or 2 toonies ....pretty good eh?

I also picked up a large tote bag of dolls, old Barbies, a Cabbage Patch doll and a few others. The dog helped me sort through the bag last nite, she was so disappointed when she was not allowed to have a new "baby".  The entire bag full was also 1.00. I have a few boxes of old Barbies as well as a Barbie Camper that will be going to auction in the New Year, so will add all of this to the pile.

I have become such a lazy gardener the last several years. I would rather spend my time doing anything but watering plants. There were several hanging baskets of artificial plants and flowers, so picked up three to hang on the front porch next year. I will wash then in the bath tub and store them in the basement until next year.....yup, you guessed it right, they were also a buck each.

One of the best sales all year, spent 8.00 dollars. Might have to go back tonite and have another look.

Till next time...

Town Wide Sales: The Good & Bad Part 2

Town Wide Sales: The Good & Bad Part 2

Remember the trunk from my last post, here is what else was in it.

Some pretty funky looking goop in that jar!

I can't believe that I touched these without gloves on, I washed and sanitized after eww.

I am all set if I ever run out of Advil.

My absolute favorite is this Stillman's Freckle Cream. The milk glass jar and metal lid are in mint condition.

This smells...well..bad..

I thought I would include pictures of the leaflet as well. These old ones are usually worth a laugh or two.

The only think I will be keeping is the freckle cream, all the rest will be going to an Antique and Collectible Auction in the New Year.

Until next time

Town Wide Sales: The Good & Bad Part 1

Town Wide Sales: The Good & Bad Part 1

All summer long I am looking in the papers and online for Community & Town Wide Garage Sales in our area. Found one that looked promising, so we thought we would make a day of it, so drove for 40 minutes to one that was heavily advertised, we even skipped one on the highway to get to the town faster. Outside of town was a large side advertising the sale, we drove and drove and found 1 sale, yup one lousy sale! When talking to the seller, she said that she was the only person participating this year. Never bought anything from her, all dirty and broken junk. We did stop at the highway sale, once again, never bought a thing. There was nice items, very pricey and once again dirty.

You know the type of sale, the seller has to tell you the story behind every item, where she bought it, how much she paid, why she thinks it is worth the asking price. One day I will have a hissy and ask them if they ever thought about washing all this dirty crap instead of yapping. For now now, just in my head.
It is walking into the unknown with these types of sales, lots of people may participate one year and very few the next. These are my favorite types of sale, get to meet all sorts of people and see the country side. But really, only one sale!!

After that disappointment thought we would give the following weekend a try in a different town.

Like night and day I tell you! Sale after sale, if I remember correctly there were 30 sales and overall great prices, friendly people. I will share just one thing that was purchased that day, well not the thing, but what was in it. The thing (trunk) is stored for the winter now.

The yard was swarming with people and stuff...everywhere. I started in a shed and slowly worked my way around, my PIH (partner in hunting) started in the garage like he always does. He called me over and showed me a vintage truck loaded with stuff, no price on it. He found the seller and was told 20.00 for the trunk and contents. That was a easy decision. This is what was in the trunk.

The Kraft Dinner and Lemonade are still full. I find the graphics so bright and cheery.

There was a large envelope full of these butter papers. I have seen these wrapped around wooden blocks for display.

You would think that I collect Honey tins with the amount I have, but I do not.

Vintage hair clips in an old greeting card box. I wish the box was in better condition, it would go great in my pink spare bedroom.

Assortment of tobacco related items. I had never heard of Three Nuns before, what an odd name.

These look so small in the picture, but they are not. The Shortbread tin is my favorite.

There were a few more treasures in the trunk that I will share in my next post.

Until then......

Happy Hunting!

What Sold #2

Once again, nothing too exciting.

All of this was from the end of garage sale buy out. So much work cleaning all of this, glad to have them gone. Still have lots from the sale to get rid off.

Handcrafted plant stand. The gentleman's estate we purchased was a wood worker. The family kept everything else he made. We have the templates for this, so might try to make a few.

All above is from the Estate buy out, happy to have made some progress, but such a long way to go! Small appliances and housewares are always a consistent seller for me. The little sales add up pretty quickly.

It is cold out today, snowing and the wind is howling. Have a pot of soup simmering.

Happy Hunting!

One Stop Shopping

This is what I woke up to.....the second last day of summer. The snow from the other day had melted and we had cooler temps. At least we had time to store away all the yard art in preparation for winter.

Drove to the next town over last nite to fill our water bottles. The water here is not drinkable, well to us anyways. There is a u-fill at the local laundry mat. In our Village the cost is $6.75 for 18.9 Liters, plus a $10.00 deposit per bottle, not a u-fill, a swap out type of thing. More convenient for sure, but too pricey. the u-fill is $2.50 for the same size bottle.

There is a book exchange in the laundry mat/water building. I picked up these.

I love the quote from the author of A Vanishing Breed.
"I never learned anything while I was talking"
There is also a local book exchange, so will take them there when I am done with them. I have sold/donated box after box of books, so am trying to be careful what I bring into the house.

There is a little beautiful store in the same town that I stop at every chance I get. It is in a tiny little house, just jammed full of everything you could image. Home decor, vintage and some new items. I have bought several pieces of Fenton there. The prices are very good, and there was a 20% off sale. I found these to add to my Wade collection.

I did not have these three, so was happy to find them, and at a great price.

The detail is amazing in these little guys! These three bring the count up to 60, all different. Not bad for a passive collection, I have piles of doubles and triples that I have to sell at some point.

At the same shop I bought this.

Spaghetti squash and zucchini, for $1.00 each. We like the zucchini sauteed with garlic and sweet onions, yummy. The shop owner was selling the veggies for her sister, the sister planted half a pack of seeds and ended up with over 150 squash!

How is that for One Stop Shopping?

Happy Hunting!
